Clackamas pitcher Kenzie West carved up the Riverhawks lineup with surgical precision, striking out 10 batters while allowing just one hit in an 8-0 conference softball victory Thursday at UCC.
The Cougars jumped on the Riverhawks early, plating five runs in the opening frame to set the tone for what became a dominant pitching performance. West walked just one batter and kept UCC hitters off balance all afternoon, facing the minimum through several innings.
Catcher Gracie Mello provided the lone bright spot for the Riverhawks offense, collecting their only hit against West's overpowering stuff. Jordan McArthur worked a walk, but the rest of the lineup managed little against the Clackamas ace.
Clackamas center fielder Katelyn Petersen reached base four times, scoring three runs to pace the visitors' attack. Brooklyn Van Renselaar and Taylor Thompson each collected two hits and drove in multiple runs as the Cougars built their lead.
Riverhawks starter Cambria Bachmeier battled through seven innings, allowing nine hits while striking out five. The sophomore kept her team within striking distance after the rough first inning, but West's dominance made any comeback attempt futile.
The loss drops UCC to 5-11 overall as conference play continues to present challenges for the young Riverhawks squad. UCC will look to regroup and find offensive rhythm in their next conference matchup.
