For eight innings, the Riverhawks couldn't solve Linn-Benton starter Emmett Stacher, managing just three hits before finally breaking through in the ninth inning of a 7-2 baseball loss on the road Saturday.
Stacher dominated UCC's lineup through seven innings of shutout work, striking out six while scattering just three hits. The Riverhawks didn't mount serious scoring threats until the final frame, when they pushed across both runs but couldn't complete the comeback.
Taylor Davis led UCC's offense with a 2-for-4 performance and drove in one run, while Jaxon Marble and Jeremiah Robbins each scored in the ninth-inning rally. Jackson Thomsen, Shiloh Wilson, and Trevor Ratliff each contributed a hit in the losing effort.
Linn-Benton built their lead methodically, scoring twice in the second inning and three more in the fourth before adding two insurance runs in the eighth. Boston Caron powered the Roadrunners' attack with a 2-for-4 day and four RBIs, including key hits in the early innings that put UCC in a hole.
Starting pitcher Ty Hellenthal took the loss for UCC despite allowing just one earned run over four innings. Hayden Kindreich followed with four innings of relief work.
The conference loss drops the Riverhawks to 17-7 overall as they head into the final stretch of league play. UCC will look to bounce back in their next conference matchup as they continue battling for playoff positioning.
